Josephine Bonanno

November 17, 1929 — October 25, 2023

Josephine Bonanno (nee Benichasa), 93, of Brooklyn passed away on October 25, 2023.  Josephine was born on November 17, 1929, to Mary and Santo (Sam) Benichasa and lived all of her life in Brooklyn. She was a veteran and served in the US Army and Air Force for over 33 years on active duty and reserves. After her discharge from active duty, Josephine continued serving her country at the Brooklyn VA Hospital until retirement.

Josephine loved to cook for her family and enjoyed hosting family reunions - always cooking enough food to feed an army.  She was devoted to her faith and was a parishioner of St. Mark's Church in Sheepshead Bay and a member of the Golden Age and Rosary Societies.

She was a dog lover and had many dogs throughout her life, including her favorites BeBe and Bella. Josephine loved listening to Tony Bennett and enjoyed the works of Norman Rockwell.

Josephine leaves behind her sister, Rose Jurik, and many nieces and nephews and friends.  She was pre-deceased by her former spouse, Peter Bonanno, her parents, her sister Mary (Waisala), and her brothers Thomas and Santo (Sam).
